GUINNESS BEER: The Taste of Ireland

I have been an Ireland (and Irish) fanatic since knowing the country in 1999. I would like to give the credit to Westlife for they were the one who introduced me to the beautiful, green country. Since then, I got a bit “obsessed” to it by researching stuff about Ireland, like St. Patrick, Irish geography, tourists destinations, and Irish products. One of the most prominent and worldwide best-selling, truly Irish product, is the Guinness beer.

Guinness is a popular Irish dry stout that originated in the brewery of Arthur Guinness (1725–1803) at St. James's Gate, Dublin. Guinness is one of the most successful beer brands worldwide. It is brewed in almost 50 countries and is available in over 100. 850 million liters (1.5 billion imperial or 1.8 billion US pints) are sold annually.

Just this year, I have been researching on where in the Philippines I could buy the said beer as I would like to give it a try. I am no drinker. I would just like to try the beer that makes a handful of Irish people drunk. So for days, I have searched the internet and almost gave up on it after 4 months. I found one, a specialty store that sells world class and imported wines and beers but every time I pass by the said store, it’s closed! I felt hopeless and thought that maybe now is not yet the right time.

Until one day, when I had to accompany my best friend to buy her youngest sister some school stuff, we went to Shopwise Commonwealth to look for bags (as we were done purchasing papers and other stuff at the Ever Commonwealth). Out of the blue, I decided to visit the wines and beers section and to my surprise (and I literally yelled to my best friend), I saw tall cans of Guinness beer on one of the shelves! I felt so happy because you really never know when good things will come your way. It arrived when I least expected it. So obviously, I bought it and took it home. Excitement is lurking all over my system.

I decided to drink it two days after and I shared it with my parents. My, it was not like any typical beer! It’s very dark, foamy, creamy, and in fairness, delicious! I don’t like beers because they’re bitter. But this one’s not at all, though I initially thought it’s strong and bitter to death because of its color. My parents loved it as well but they were shocked at the price. Well, for me, since I really like it, the price is just okay!

 

  

Finally, I got to have a portion of Ireland. I promise to search and buy some more Irish stuff.
